In 1960, Ford introduced its first compact car, the Falcon. At the time of planning (57-58), Edsel is to inherit a posh version of Falcon, the Comet. But, being the Edsel disaster we know is that Mercury finally recovers a year later. The first Comet are more than mere Falcon rebadgées since they rely on extended wheelbase of 4.5 inches.
