BMW Art Car promotes African art in New York
The BMW 525i, decorated in 1991 by Esther Malhangu, is part of an exhibition in New York on African art.
BMW shows in New York, the Museum of Arts and Design, until 15 May as part of the Global Africa Project, the Art Car Esther Malhangu, a BMW 525i 1991. This exhibition examines the role of African art and its influence on contemporary art. Now this Art Car was painted using the traditional technique of the Ndebele tribe of South Africa. This painting is practiced by women and this tradition applies to an object by modern car. Since 1975 and the first copy made by Alexander Calder, the Art Cars have become a symbol of BMW. In total, 17 cars were diverted, the last one M3 GT2 last June by Jeff Koons.
