Long, Edsel Ford, son of Henry Ford and then President of the company, is campaigning to add an additional range but old Henry is stubborn. He finally succumbs to the late 30s and the Mercury brand was launched in 1939. The models also differ little from Ford (and larger wheelbase V8) but, with 75,000 copies produced, the beginnings are promising.
