Now available is Lotus’s facelifted Elise that has a price tag of £27,450 for the entry-level model, an £800 increase over the starting price of the outgoing version. Lotus dropped the “S” from the previous version and now recognizes the entry-level model as simply the Lotus Elise. Powering the car is a 1.6-liter engine with Valvematic, the smallest engine to ever be installed in an Elise.
The Toyota-sourced engine delivers 134bhp, the same as the 1.8 unit it replaces. Torque is down from 127lb ft to 118lb ft. while CO2 emissions have been reduced by 13% to 155g/km over the previous entry-level model. The new Elise has a new front bumper, splitter and clamshell, which all give the facelifted Elise a wider stance. The car also possesses a repositioned front light cluster featuring LED daytime running lights for the first time. It is also very evident that the Elise’s signature Lotus ‘mouth’ has been widened.
The rear gets a new bumper and engine cover. Surely, fans will be poring through the options list, which include two types of lightweight forged alloy wheels, and cruise control. £1500 is added to the R and SC models have both had increases over the outgoing Elises they replace, priced from £31,450 and £34,450 respectively.
