General Motors is now officially open a new factory for mass production of lithium-ion batteries. U.S. Senator Jennifer Granholm and GM boss Ed Whitacre will start along with U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu symbolic production. The new plant in the U.S. state of Michigan will continue to produce lithium-ion cells complete batteries, which are used in hybrid and electric vehicles.
In addition to the new production, the entire electronics are produced, which is required for Electrically operated vehicles. Produced in Michigan, lithium-ion batteries are initially installed in the Chevrolet Volt and the Opel Ampera later.
